Archbishop Visits Eastern Uganda
After the African House of Bishops in Nairobi, Archbishop Charles Jones and Father Scott Howard flew to Uganda to visit churches throughout eastern Uganda. Bishop Samuel Lubogo escorted them throughout their visits and Bishop Francis Gogo joined them when they visited churches in his diocese.
Tuesday, December 11, 2007
In seven days they visited 16 churches and prayed for thousands of people. Many of these churches were far in the bush and required long trips on practically impassible roads. As we road with the bishops and various clergy, we heard how these churches had been planted by dedicated clergy visiting these areas by bicycle or on foot.
Archbishop Jones encouraged the believers through the Word, he emphasized the unique calling of the ICCEC in the move of God today, and he prayed for healing. At each church there were immediate signs of God’s work as people testified to being healed. We heard sometimes days later reports of healings that had take place.
At every church groups of all ages performed praise and worship songs in their own musical forms. At most churches there would be at least one song written for the occasion that said something like, “We are so thankful that you came, we did not think you would, but you did! We praise God for bringing our Archbishop!”
At every church, the archdeacon of that area of the pastor of that church would introduce evangelists, building project leaders, men’s and women’s discipleship leaders, leaders in charge of orphans, and so on. We came way overwhelmed with how much our churches are doing with so little. It was humbling, convicting and encouraging all at the same time.
This report will be expanded over the next few days, so please come back.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our churches in Africa.
